Car Photography

Automotive art has always been popular. We see it all around us, in magazines, in brochures and on posters.

Today automotive art has become much more sophisticated thanks to huge improvements in photography, particularly in lighting and post-processing. The most popular tools for the job are; Photoshop, Lightroom and Aperture. These provide essential re-touching work to be carried out and most photographers will have one or two of these tools available to them to get the most out of their images.

Though the best photographers don’t rely solely on these tools to take stunning photographs, they try to get the lighting right from when they release the shutter.

Tim Wallace is a great automotive photographer that has a natural ability to best show off a vehicle. He was awarded the Associate Distinction for Professional and Applied photography for his work with vehicles in 2008. He was also invited to Jaguar’s ‘industry first’ car photography seminar at their UK headquarters.

Lighting is the key to car photography and how you choose to set up your lighting is personal preference, it is not possible to copy and lighting set up and get the same result. Portable lights mean that you will never miss a shot for lack of gear.

The most important thing to remember is that camera does not make the photograph, the photographer does. A mix of careful thought, lighting and exposure can create a truly inspirational piece of work.

VW Camper

VW Campers have are an iconic part of motoring history. The first models went on the market in the early 1950’s, and ever since people can’t seem to get enough of them. As well as being aesthetically appealing, these vans provide a perfect camping experience, with a large interior and comfortable living space. A VW camper can make your holiday, which is why it is such an iconic model today.

The first VW model was called the Spilt-screened Kombi. As it's name suggests, the bus has two screens instead of one, which was in high fashion at the time. This style of Camper has since become one of the most sought after vehicles, due to the model being replaced in 1968 with a single screen version. As there are only a small number of the Split-screened versions left, this Camper has become some what of a collector’s item. Due to its rarity and age, the Split-screened Kombi can be worth quite a lot of money.

There are lots of variations of the Volkswagen engine components which have been manufactured since the 1930s, when VW first appeared in Germany. Adolf Hitler commissioned someone to design a peoples car and the result was the earliest VW Beetle. Volkswagen introduced the VW parts for this type of engine when they launched the VW bus and original Volkswagen model, the Beetle. The parts that made up the predecessor to the air cooled engine were those that made the water cooled engines. Although the VW parts for water cooled engines were designed to work well, they simply did not perform as well as what would become air cooled Kombi parts.
